Connect Wanneroo is a community campaign endorsed by the City of Wanneroo to promote priority projects that need funding and policy support by key politicians and decision makers.
City of Wanneroo Advocacy
The City of Wanneroo recognises the role advocacy plays in influencing political support, decision making and funding of critical infrastructure and social services. Connect Wanneroo is the City’s dedicated advocacy brand used for communication activities and campaigning for our communities’ unique needs.
The City’s inaugural Advocacy Strategy was released in 2014 and combined with strong community support resulted in funding being secured for a range of key projects including the Mitchell Freeway extension, extension of the rail to Yanchep and a range of community facilities.
In 2024 the City has set a new Advocacy Agenda in the lead up to both the 2025 State and Federal elections. Eleven priority projects have been identified under the four themes of liveability, productivity, sustainability and wellbeing. These themes have been developed to align to the priorities of our community and both State and Federal priorities.

Working together
The City of Wanneroo works collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, each with an interest in the advocacy journey. The community plays a key role in helping to identify projects and support collective action.
National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA)
The City is a member of the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA), a membership organisation made up of high growth outer metro councils across Australia. Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts is Deputy Chair of the NGAA.

This group has a WA membership of Local Governments that are high growth and outer metro, and share issues in common. For example, providing the necessary sporting and recreational facilities required for a growing population.
